Hi! I’m Natalie Scott and I’m very excited to introduce my young adult novel titled Rules For Riders. It’s a fast and furiously paced, coming-of-age novel about the escalating competition between two young girls set in the competitive world of equestrian riding.
The reason I set my novel in the equestrian world is it became a metaphor for my own life as a writer. In my novel, my heroine, Bebe Barkley, dreams of being a champion rider and going to the Olympics, just as I’ve dreamed of being a writer. In many ways I wanted her dreams to parallel my own.
In real life, we’re also met with stiff competition. There’ll always be certain people trying to stand in the way of us attaining our dreams, which is part of the reason I created my antagonist Finn Foxley.
I also introduced a love interest, Billy O’Riley, Bebe’s handsome trainer who gives her seven rules that will change her life forever. Whenever I felt like giving up or throwing in the towel, I would use the rules to inspire me because the secret to the rules is they are not just for riders, but for everyone in everyday life.
Rules For Riders is a tale of lost dreams and the struggle to create new ones. I encourage you to get a sneak peak at the novel by downloading the first three chapters here.
